COUNSELING FOR CUSTODY OF CHILDREN
ARGO SUPPORT FOR THE PROTECTION OF MINORS
Unfortunately, the statistics for separation and divorce speak for themselves: 20% of couples fail to even reach the fifth year of marriage, thus dispelling the myth of the so-called ‘seven-year itch’. Since the entry into force of Italian Law no. 54 of 2006, the Civil Code regulates shared custody which, in most cases, proves beneficial for the child. But there are some situations in which the custodian proves to be inadequate, or even dangerous as a parent.
It is at this point that our intervention regarding custody of children becomes necessary, in order to document the minor’s actual living situation. Through our legal, investigative and psychological support, you can find the solution to a delicate problem that could affect your own peace of mind, and the piece of mind of your child in particular. In addition to our proverbial discretion and efficiency, you will be welcomed into an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding and, most importantly, we will analyse your problem from all different angles.
Parental Alienation Syndrome (PAS)
In the context of disputes over child custody, a child disorder called Parental Alienation Syndrome may occur.PAS can be described as the result of a supposed “programming” of children by a pathological parent. In simple terms it is a kind of “brainwashing” that would lead the children to lose touch with reality, and exhibit a constant, and unfair hatred and contempt towards the other parent.
The techniques implemented by the “alienating” parent are:
- The use of derogatory terms referring to the other parent
- False accusations of neglect towards the child
- Verbal and/or physical violence that generates deep feelings of fear, mistrust, guilt and hatred toward the “alienated” parent in the child
The Italian Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (SINPIA) has guidelines on the subject of child abuse, published in 2007, and includes PAS as one of the possible forms of psychological abuse.
The long term effects of this phenomenon may cause a number of problems, including:
- Altered reality
- Difficulties in showing empathy
- Lack of respect for authority
- Psychopathologies related to gender identity
Through our investigations, we can determine whether a parent is exhibiting such behaviour, which is adversely affecting the child. Our evidence will be brought to court, including through the examination of our investigators.
